DAN ZHU, China
Mr Zhu is considered to be one of the most in demand violin soloists in the world. His rich repertoire spreads from Baroque to present day music, with all major concertos known by heart. His many engagements make him travel ceaselessly in Europe from Iceland to Turkey, from Finland and Russia to Italy and Spain, when not between Korea and Thailand or Hong-Kong. Long is the list of orchestras he has played with : from 'National Symphony Orchestra' and 'Boston Symphony' in America to the orchestras of Prague and Belgrade in Central/Eastern Europe. This under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Zubin Mehta, Philippe Entremont, Krzysztof Pendercki, Gyorgy Kurtag, and in China under that of Muhai Tang, Long Yu. In his native country he is hailed as one of the ten best musicians, and is closely related to the 'China National Symphony', of which he happens to be one of the primary guest solo performers, with concert appearances in Beijing, Shanghai, and other major Chinese cities. Dan also often performs with the 'Shenzhen Orchestra' with which he has toured the United States and Canada. Equally long is the list of festivals - such as Stresa Festival, Italy - where he has collaborated and masterclasses he has given worldwide. Dan Zhu is praised for his 'perfect playing', 'distinctive dramaturgy and contrasts', 'crystalline tones with intensity and sensitivity', 'truly brilliant, compelling and polished'. 'The Markow Totevy Foundation' sponsored Dan in his early beginnings: in France at the 'Festival de Pontlevoy', 'Chinese Cultural Center' and 'Palais des Invalides' of Paris ; in the United States at the 'Embassy of China' and 'National Gallery' of Washington.
